Many restaurants in foreign countries claiming to serve Japanese food are actually offering dishes quite different from traditional Japanese cuisine, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.
I nearly choked on my mayonnaise, potato and seaweed pizza when I read that. But I managed to wash it down with some rice and corn-starch "beer".

I think the problem is that we here in the West are an even-numbered culture, while the Japanese are odd-numbered. The resulting culinary mismatch is inevitable.
Not sure I believe that. The Japanese don't like "4" because it sounds like "death" but AIUI 8 is popular and 3 and 7 are common lucky numbers in the West.
The pizza menu in front of me has as its featured offering a pizza with 4 different quarters of:
1 prawn and mayonnaise
2 sausage and potato
3 teriyaki chicken and ... more mayonnaise
4 tomato and ham - phew!
Seems like the kiss of death to me...
Mind you I'm not claiming that the Scottish version is that much better :-)
Seems to me a good idea that the French should adopt, but your menu does answer the question of how a Scot could thrive in Japan
