[jules' pics] Both kinds of flushing

And then there's the American idea of a technical toilet. Incredibly, you can pull the lever up... and down!
I can't remember the last time I saw a Japanese western-style toilet without dual-flush, which made the attached greenwash seem even more spectacular, "By installing this water-saving handle with dual-function flush, this facility has demonstrated its commitment to protect and preserve the environment".

Note that it has been specially coated to protect against germs. I recall "Travels with Charlie" by Steinbeck, where he fulminates against all the silly "This toilet seat has been sterilised for your convenience" (And covered with plastic film you have to rip off) then spreading across the USA in the 50's. Or maybe it goes back further.
It feels a bit like a cross between happy techno-optimism, salesmanship and simple awe. "Hey, we can do this! Isn't it great!"
Which is I suppose very American. In Britain we'd all go "yeah, that's good, now it's time to go home/ get down before you hurt yourself" etc.
