[jules' pics] relations

The funny thing about James is that he doesn't look much like either his sister or his brother. Thus I've always imagined he was orphaned in Ayr market square and the Mother In Law took him home like she might a bird with a broken wing. However, there can be no doubt that there is significant family resemblance on both sides. I already blogged the paternal side, but the maternal side is possibly even more concerning.

James, This is off topic and I will understand if you don't want to express an opinion on a subject with such political baggage. What do you think of the new Briffa paper on Yamal?

I didn't even know such a thing existed, and it's not really something I have much interest in, though I'll go and have a look for it now. A bit behind on many things after rather a lot of travel/holiday.

Can't you see he's busy bird watching!?

See Ethon out there? Kind of large eagle like thing who likes to feed on guys tied to rocks?

More seriously, bird watching and botanizing are amongst the things like beer and pizza which are sure signs of Gods favor.

Yes, I know vacations are are important. Looks like you are having a good time, which is what's important.

We were at a meeting last week where the two Americans we were seated by at lunch asked each other very deferentially "will you take a vacation this summer". They each shyly admitted that they may take several days. We nearly fell off our chairs. How do the Americans get time to think imaginative thoughts if they barely take any holidays?

though to be fair it might just have been a slightly odd choice of words that we over-interpreted...it seemed that they both did take decent amounts of vacation. We haven't always used up all of ours, though we are taking it more seriously now :-)

Eli, most of our wanna-be eagles were actually turkey vultures, though our target in that photo was an osprey IIRC.
