Wondering how to blog the trip. Chronological would be too dull. Perhaps I should have themes. Of course this means that many of the posts will simply be called "rock". This one, however, is "transport".

Looks like a coal train ... how appropiate!
I would guess that the train is between Green River and Grand Junction and heading east. If it is a coal train it is deadheading back to WY.
BTW, did you guys hit the legenday Highway 666? The signs proved so popular (mostly with DFH's like me, who could resist a sign which said "US 666"?) that they had to paint the route numbers on the road. The landscape going north towards the Navajo rez and Farmington are gorgeous.
If that's the road now re-named 491, we didn't use it this time, but have done previously.
Yes, the train pic was along that section of I70, and it was full of coal. Can't remember which way it was going.
Doubtless straight to hell, it being a death train and all (h/t JH).
RN will therefore be amused to hear that one evening long ago I was strolling along Capp St. in SF and saw this sign posted on the gate to #667: "Neighbor of the Beast"
Yep, that would be the road. Last time I was on it was, gack, 2001 before the renumbering (although strangely AZ had supposedly renumbered in 1992(?) to 191, but I still remember seeing road markings (painted route numbers) on the road in AZ.
It will always be 666 in my memory, long may it live!
