Where are we now?

If you have a car and an afternoon or a day to spare, Big Basin State Park is well worth the trip. The place to go is the headquarters area on Highway 236.

Shoreline Blvd in beautiful Mountain View, CA. Or maybe Amphitheater Parkway.

Use to work in that building when SGI was there.

And oh, yeah, Big Basin is really cool. The biggest trees are right at the headquarters area but if you have a full day, hiking out to Berry Falls (preferably via Silver and Gold falls) is really nice.

These places sound great, but I have to say, your notions of a day or afternoon trip are obviously a little different to mine :-)

You were headed west on I70 (CO/UT border area, Green River UT). So the next best guesses would be Boulder (which would be a backtrack), CO (sorry don't know any cool places there, except Rocky Mountain NP), San Francisco (in which case Big Basin is still a go) or Seattle. Although the LA area is still a possibility, but who in their right mind would go to LA?

If you are in Seattle, a place north of town called "Big Four" is pretty cool. Nice ice caves, but they might not be there anymore (global warming and all...).

I've not been following, but if Green River was correct, Denver (museums) and Boulder (NCAR? Coffee with the Ps?) are not "far" away, on a US scale that is.

Clever Ratty seems to have been the winner, though it wasn't so much a backtrack as the end of our loop - more pics filling in the details will surely follow...
