There's been much comment on Obama's appointment of a new ambassador to Japan. The nominee, John Roos, is a lawyer whose only apparently qualification is that he raised a lot of funds for Obama's election campaign. Of course the Japanese govt has welcomed the appointment in the manner of a poodle accepting a biscuit when it was hoping for a chocolate, but others are less obliged to be polite.
Britain has no such issues with favouritism. We also have a (fairly) recently apppointed ambassador, but as usual, he is perfectly well qualified...
...to be President of the Cambridge and Oxford society :-)
