No one in the top picture was interested in what you were doing, whereas 25% of the locals in the bottom picture were interested in what you were doing.
Actually it was a trick question! The answer is that they are actually quite different photographs, but taken with the same lens! It is sister-in-law's 50mm manual focus, that does not expose on my camera. It makes me wonder why we all get our knickers in such a twist about which cameras focus and expose the most automatically...
