David Benson asks if we are prepared for the weather...
With two typhoons approaching we thought it was a good time for a cycle tour across Tohoku. After 210km of continuous rain we are safely ensconced in a rickety draughty temple lodgings at the top of a small mountain all ready to sit out the storm tonight. It's just starting to get a bit windy.

Is that typhoon bracing on the poles?
Um, 210 km in the rain? In a day? How well bundled-up you must have been! But at least it was a warm rain.
The 210km was spread over 2 1/2 days interspersed with several hot baths and warm dry beds - and it still felt like quite enough at a time!
Didn't particularly notice the poles, but I suppose the land is quite soft and soggy (rice paddy).
