[jules' pics] How to eat breakfast

breakfast 1

breakfast 2

Californians go to restaurants not to eat, but to proclaim their inner thoughts to all while pushing mountains of food round their plate with a fork. Normally they don't get even get through to the plate, before piling the remains into a polystyrene box. This is carried out and left on a nearby park bench. Whether this for the benefit of the birds or the hobos I don't know, but I do know that we aren't Californians.

I hope that french toast was made with delicious San Francisco sourdough bread. Looks yummy.

Naughty boy James. That yummy looking bacon derived from methane-producing swine, and that tasty sourdough benefited from CO2-producing saccromyceses. You are allowing your genes to control your behaviour.

If he keeps it up, he'll be allowing his behavior to control his jeans.

Your post shows a serious case of under-sampling and/or cherry picking. On the other side of the bay, the boxes are all biodegradable.

I should clarify that I did not have the bacon, mine was the plate in the background - which had a sausage omelet with cheese and salsa on top, potato and tortillas to the side, but no bacon that I am aware of. So I believe I retain my halo :-) And unlike my neighbour who ordered the same, I not only got through to the plate, but finished the dish, apart from some of the tortilla.

The bread was merely described as home-baked, on reflection it may well have been sourdough. It was certainly a good match to the dish which I also had a taste of.

As for the jeans, I have them adequately under control, or at least, I have a strategy for attaining this goal in the coming weeks...with only one day to go before returning to Japan I'm not going to pass up on any more culinary treats!

(At customs last weekend at the airport they asked me if I was carrying any food...I sniggered and said, I'm coming to SF for a week, and you think I'd bring food from Japan?)

Nosmo, are you sure that it isn't just that your polystyrene boxes float over here?

Well actually, polystyrene is banned in Berkeley. Don't think it is in Oakland

Oooh, that's progressive...

to clarify, it is polystyrene food containers that are banned. Frankly it is a very good idea.

Yes, I realised that's what you meant - and I agree it's a good thing, I wasn't being sarcastic!
