James and Dirac, originally uploaded by julesberry2001.

A special bonus post for those worrying about Isaac's architecture. The institute is arranged internally in order to very obviously force reticent mathematicians to interact at every possible opportunity, even when they are just popping to the loo.

Escheresque; nothing has changed and it still looks quite new.

By the way, there is also an elevator (lift) for those who are too shy to walk the stairs.

Ah, that's much better!

I had this 'funny' remark about the cruelty of forcing mathematicians to actually meet other people, but David's comment ruined that one...

I think use of the elevator would attract more attention - it is fairly central and open-cage design, so you can see who is inside like a bird in a cage.

I really, really, need more pictures before opening my mouth...

Somewhere there must be a connection with papers getting accepted but not being published (or actually, published, but not on paper).

Wot about the statues?

But you have not mentioned the most amusing thing. Mathematicians also have the opportunity to write down their equations at every possible opportunity, even when they are just popping to the loo. Yes, there are blackboards in the loos.
