Fashion Forward

No one believed me at lunch the other day when I proclaimed that the world has finally caught up, and that James and I are now, momentarily, on trend. But now that it has appeared in the Sartorlialist, it must be believed:
So, you will be wanting to check out my stitchin' blog to see what you will all be wearing in the future ...

  1. That's sooo '80s! Somewhere I still have a pair of purple paisley Craghoppers that I cut off at the knee when they frayed down below (or perhaps to show that I wasn't a poof - I forget which).

  2. Comparing the photos, yours seem to be insufficiently highwater. Easy fix for that, though!

  3. I have a longstanding allergy to short trousers (not shorts per se, but inadequate longs). Probably the result of childhood trauma :-)

  4. Er, yes, as another kid who grew rapidly, I felt your pain. OTOH I was able to mitigate it by ripping out the knees at as early a stage as possible. :)

  5. And I thought that Japan was aways ahead of the fashion curve...

  6. I dunna about the pants, but I'd wear some of those shirts that James has one. <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sOfVZbjgPGA/T0Nxmw-LZ8I/AAAAAAAABUU/kEvTY8q1cNQ/s400/Jbloo.jpg'>This one in particular</a>, even if it has to be hand washed.

Thanks! Keep your eyes open. James likes to leave them in motorway service stations. Which painfully reminds me that stitchin' certainly makes me value clothes much more - they take so long to make. If I was paid the same per hour as I am for climate science they'd cost thousands (of USD, not just yen!). Presently I am stitchin' yet another fluffy hoodie for a friend who foolishly requested one. He lives in Colorado, so I hope he won't sue me when he finds out it isn't fire proof. Mind you, if he house burns down, I guess he'll be glad to have it ftp keep him warm in the winter.

  8. "have it ftp keep him warm"

    Nerd typo alert! :-)

I think my first trousers of this ilk were from Troll, but they seem to have gone all beige now. How boring.

  9. Hance...hmmm.....we have always though Japan was years ahead in technological fashion but some way behind sartorially (not to mention socially). But that maybe because I count Harajuku kids as weird rather than fashionable.

Americans are very conservative in their trousers though - I've had a lot of unsolicited comments on mine when travelling there.

Yes definitely. I have a colleague in the Netherlands who wears garish greens and oranges. We Americans are always properly aghast.

Jules --- thanks for the tip! I thought I'd have to mug him at the next AGU for it. This sounds much easier and less likely for me to end up with "shower buddies." ;-)

I showed my wife Nita the fluffy hoodie that you had on your blog, she and I both really liked it.
