It was across the aisle and I was jetlagged to hell so I don't have much idea what it was, but the e-ink was impressive. Apart from the size being a bit impractical for strap-hanging on a commuter train, I don't think the Japanese would like others reading over their shoulder - many use overlays on their phones to restrict the angle.James Annanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04318741813895533700noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9959776.post-83953150562667183872010-01-28T02:27:58.398+00:002010-01-28T02:27:58.398+00:00you must have seen the bigger kindle DX? the kind...you must have seen the bigger kindle DX? the kindle "2" is pretty small, I would think even by Japanese standards of usage/coolness (maybe not though)? but I need the DX for PDF files (no way to zoom in on PDF's or change fonts). well by now (a month) I've bought ridiculous amounts of Amazon kindle books to bother switching....Carl Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14717209873111026574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9959776.post-62829250344748472202010-01-28T01:41:38.750+00:002010-01-28T01:41:38.750+00:00http://lmgtfy.com/?q=e-ink

Great screen but these things are really too big to catch on in Japan. I'm sure I'd miss a keyboard on any laptop-substitute - the iPod touch is worth putting up with it for the size advantage, but the iPad is pretty much as big as my macbook air anyway.

I suppose we still might manage to use up some spare budget on one though - web surfing is so central to my research, donchaknow :-)James Annanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04318741813895533700noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9959776.post-8538869058375436532010-01-28T00:00:49.220+00:002010-01-28T00:00:49.220+00:00I'm still a daily user of a Clie TH-55.

I really like the "e-ink" screen on the kindle so if the Apple "tablet" is a huge iphone it probably wouldn't be as easy to read for me over long periods of time.Carl Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14717209873111026574noreply@blogger.com
